Life Stress / Challenges / Transitions
Counseling isn't just for people who have a diagnosis! Anyone can benefit from having extra support in their life beyond friends and family. Stress can show up in any given aspect of life and one person's experiences cannot be compared to another. Whether you'd just like a compassionate sound board or you're working through a change in your life, it can be profoundly helpful to have a nonjudgmental space to process your experiences.
Eating Disorders
Did you know that eating disorders and disordered eating are both extremely common for both men and women in our society? In a culture that continues to value dieting and skinny models, the resulting psychological effects on us as children, teens and on into adulthood can result in a vast range of problems with eating, body image, anxiety and emotional intolerance. Eating disorders have a genetic component, the right environment and circumstances can pull the trigger. If you are ready break the cycles that eating disorders create, I will help you find the knowledge, skills and tools necessary for change.
Grief, Loss and Death
Often considered the hardest of emotions and experiences to endure, these topics are often semi or totally taboo in our families and friendships. When you do not have a receptive person to share your thoughts and emotions with, isolation and misunderstanding often become additional layers of suffering. Grief is not something you can "get over", nor can it be "fixed". These are very human experiences that we all must learn how to move through. Whatever your unique experiences are - they are normal and you do not have to walk through it alone!
Religion, Spirituality & Paranormal Beliefs and Experiences
Yes, this is a safe space for these topics too! I welcome and affirm all beliefs and experiences. These topics sometimes feel like a taboo in our society and I often hear from clients that it is difficult to discuss without feeling that they might be labeled as "crazy". Yet this is just another dimension of being human and can profoundly impact how we perceive the world and our place in it. You will never be judged - bring your experiences and let's explore what they mean to you!
Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress
Trauma can refer to a huge array of experiences, not just life threatening events. You may have suffered event(s) that leave you feeling a range of things such as shaken, powerless, even numb. The aftermath can feel difficult if not impossible to navigate. Even prolonged stressors and multiple past events can leave us feeling maxed out and unsure how to navigate the future. No matter what the event or experience is, relief is possible.
LGBTQIA+ Affirming Care
I am a LGBTQIA+ ally and I believe that therapy should always be a safe welcoming space. Here you are free to explore who you are, to know that you will never be judged and that you are unconditionally accepted and most welcome! This is gender affirming care. I also have experience working with polyamorous clients. I am happy to help you navigate your identity, experiences and relationships.
Mental Health Education
It's not "in your head"! Mental health continues to bear stigma in our society in many different ways. I also have a background in physical health and a passion for neuroscience. Mental health is directly connected to physical health and your unique biology and genetics. They simply cannot be thought of as separate and unrelated. I love to share education - I want to empower you with knowledge on how your challenges are very much linked to biology and adaptation. I welcome questions and I love to provide answers whenever I can that are grounded in research and science.
Treatment Approaches
